Social media is anything but stagnant. As with the internet as a whole, social media platforms are constantly adding or removing features, updating algorithms, overhauling designs and more. Keeping users engaged and interacting on a platform requires regular updates that create a better experience for users, keeping up with their wants, needs and current trends. As a digital marketing reseller, Globital South Africa helps digital agencies who are looking to provide their clients with world-class social media marketing services. As such, we make a point of keeping up with the latest social media trends and updates, and 2022 has several exciting updates in store.
Instagram Is Testing A Brand New Format
For most of Instagram’s current users, Instagram Reels feature just one “Reels” tab. Still seemingly working on the appearance and design of the main screen in Reels, Instagram has recently started testing a new tab in India. Users now have a “Following” tab next to the Reels tab, where they can see content posted only by Instagram users they follow.
YouTube Is Expanding Channel Gifting
YouTube has been experimenting with its offering for a while now, recently having expanded to YouTube gaming, live streaming and paid memberships. Memberships allow audience members to support creators by paying for automated monthly donations. YouTube is now experimenting with the option of gifting other users with channel memberships. Essentially, a YouTube user will be able to purchase a set of channel memberships that YouTube will be able to give to other viewers in a live stream. Important to note is that the users themselves won’t have any control over who receives the gifted membership.
Twitter Is Adding A New Option To Twitter Spaces
Twitter Spaces are a relatively new addition themselves, with many users still trying to find their way around and figure out how they want to make use of the feature. Spaces allow users to have live audio conversations via Twitter with as few or as many users as desired. Twitter is set to add a new option to “Start a Space about this Tweet” option to the platform. This will essentially be the audio chat equivalent of quoting tweets, allowing users to have conversations about specific Tweets.
LinkedIn Is Bringing In Live Captions For Audio Events
Many in the social media space are doing their best to make their platforms more accessible. LinkedIn is no exception, recently announcing updates they are hoping will add more accessibility to the platform. In the near future, we can expect to see LinkedIn offering real-time captions for live audio events. Captions are beneficial for so many people, including D/deaf and hard of hearing people, users who can’t use audio for any reason (sensory, privacy etc.), adults and children learning to read and more, making captions an update to get excited about.
