When your digital agency is preparing to take on new SEO clients, the onboarding process is critical in order to ensure a smooth relationship between you two. Taking the time to create an onboarding checklist is a great start. On our YouTube channel, Globital TV, our top Project Manager Waseem Ansari reveals the key points to include on a good SEO client onboarding checklist.
Globital South Africa is known by many digital agencies as the best white label SEO company. Working consistently with digital agencies, we are all too aware that taking a wrong turn in the onboarding process can waste time and money and result in a host of problems in the future. When digital agencies onboard new clients, there are five simple steps to follow:
- Formalise the working relationship with a thoughtful welcome package
- Have the client fill out a detailed questionnaire
- Audit existing activity
- Research the client’s industry (and their position within it)
- Set up reporting from the start
The client questionnaire is one of the most important factors in the onboarding process. When given the right care and attention, it can set your digital agency up for success in terms of the relationship with this new client.
An onboarding questionnaire should be more than the particulars of the business like their name, address, website or social media details, services and the like. The onboarding questionnaire should help your digital agency get as much information as possible in order to provide the best services to that specific client. Your digital agency’s onboarding questionnaire should be detailed enough to gather important information for your team to use while simultaneously not being an arduous task they will have no interest in completing.
If the questionnaire is too long and requires too much effort from your client, they are less likely to be thoughtful in their answers. Rather, you will probably receive rushed answers with generic facts that do nothing to give information (if you receive any answers at all).
To ensure that your questionnaire is not too overwhelming or likely to bore your client, keep some of the following points in mind:
- Don’t include more than 15 – 20 questions. This should be more than sufficient to gather the important information your digital agency requires.
- Offer some guidance through the questionnaire to help keep your clients engaged and make the process easier on them overall.
- Touch base on any previous work and find out whether or not they were happy with the results achieved.
- Get information regarding your new client’s specific goals and KPIs
- Be sure to get website and platform access to be able to deliver your digital agency’s services.
