Over the weekend, I noticed that the tools used to track Google Search ranking changes finally started to settle down. However, the conversation among SEOs about ranking shifts has been picking up, especially over the weekend and into Monday. While the tools show less activity, the buzz in the community suggests otherwise.
This morning, the tracking tools began to show a slight increase in activity, though not as intense as what we’ve seen in recent weeks. Still, the ongoing chatter in the SEO world points to the possibility of an unconfirmed Google search ranking update.

Here’s a look at the latest discussions from the past couple of days, including insights from WebmasterWorld and comments shared here:
“”Big drop today!””
“”Very worse weekend with left over Google traffic. But Amazon sales are as high as never before. People clearly moving to Amazon for purchasing items.””
“”Yes drop is huge since 3 days !””
“”I’m not sure about ‘Cool Down’…since Saturday, our website has more than doubled its traffic. It dipped during the spam update. Google is weird.””
“”Something happened on the 10th…
Literally I am seeing the biggest moves when the tools show lows.””
Google Volatility Tracking Tools
Most of the tracking tools remain relatively calm, but there was a slight uptick in activity observed yesterday:
It seems like just when we thought things had calmed down, they may not have. Here’s a quick recap of what’s happened over the past month:
- The November 2024 core update wrapped up in December.
- Then, we saw a new December 2024 core update start and finish, along with the December 2024 spam update also completing in December.
However, things haven’t truly settled since the last official Google algorithm update of 2024—it’s still highly volatile. To add to the unpredictability, we’re expecting even more core updates in 2025. Last weekend, there was a strange Google local ranking bug that Google hasn’t commented on yet.
